My outdoor family sessions take place at sunset — the golden hour when the light is at its most warm, soft and flattering. Rather than shooting in a busy public park or a generic location, I work at two carefully chosen private spots near Godalming, just ten to fifteen minutes from Guildford along the A3100. These locations have been selected specifically for their quality of evening light and the beauty of their natural backdrops — and they produce a style of image that simply isn't possible anywhere else.

In spring, my heathland location comes alive with warm, rich tones — a beautiful earthy backdrop that gives family portraits a timeless, natural quality. As summer moves into late summer, the heather blooms into a spectacular deep purple that makes for some of the most striking family portraits I create all year. From July through to September, my meadow location takes centre stage — long golden grasses catching the last of the evening sun, creating a warm, luminous quality that Guildford families come back for year after year.

The drive from Guildford is straightforward and scenic — and for most families, the short journey feels completely worth it from the moment they step out of the car and see the location.
