SURREY FAMILY PHOTOGRAPHER

Beautiful outdoor sessions at golden hour,
capturing your family's story across Surrey

A dedicated and passionate family photographer in Godalming. I photograph families across Surrey including Haslemere, Farnham, Guildford, Cranleigh, Elstead, Hindhead and surrounding villages.

Family life is beautifully, gloriously imperfect. The noise, the laughter, the chaos — and in amongst all of it, these extraordinary connections that bind you together. A family photoshoot isn't about perfect poses and everyone looking at the camera. It's about capturing how your family actually feels — the real moments, the genuine interactions, the love that exists between you on an ordinary day.

I'm Kayleigh, a specialist family and newborn photographer based in Milford, near Godalming in Surrey. I photograph families across the county — from Guildford and Woking in the north to Farnham, Haslemere and Cranleigh in the south — and every session I offer is designed to feel relaxed, natural and completely personal to you.

Golden hour family photography — Surrey's most beautiful light

My outdoor family sessions take place at sunset — and there is a very deliberate reason for that. The golden hour light that falls in the final hour before the sun goes down is simply unlike anything else. It's warm, soft and flattering, wrapping your family in a natural glow that no studio light can replicate. It makes colours richer, skin tones warmer, and photographs feel genuinely cinematic.

I shoot at two locations near Godalming that I have carefully chosen for the quality of their light and the beauty of their natural backdrops. In spring, my heathland location bursts into colour — the warm russet tones of the heath creating a rich, textured backdrop that photographs beautifully. As summer progresses into late summer, the heather turns a stunning deep purple, giving sessions a completely different and equally breathtaking feel. From July through to September, my meadow location comes into its own — long golden grasses catching the evening light in a way that feels almost magical.

Each season brings something entirely different, and many of my Surrey families come back year after year to capture how their children have grown against these ever-changing backdrops.

MINI SESSIONS - £195

A smaller session with limited availability on selected dates during Summer 2026

KIND WORDS

Every family session begins with a relaxed arrival — there's no rushing, no pressure and no rigid shot list to work through. I'll guide you gently through the session, suggesting natural interactions and movements rather than stiff poses, so that what we capture feels genuinely like you.

Children set the pace. If little ones need time to warm up, we give them that time. If they want to run, jump and explore, we capture that too — often those unscripted, in-between moments become the images families treasure most. I'm experienced at working with children of all ages, from babies and toddlers through to older children and teenagers, and I'll make sure everyone — including the family dog — feels at ease from start to finish.

Your edited gallery will be ready within two to three weeks of your session, delivered to a secure online viewing gallery from which you can select your favourite images and explore wall art and print options.

What to expect from your family session

Family Photography FAQs

What time of day do outdoor sessions take place?

My outdoor family sessions take place at golden hour — the beautiful window of warm, soft light in the final hour before sunset. The exact session time varies throughout the year depending on sunset times, but I'll always confirm your start time well in advance. Evening sessions also tend to work wonderfully for families with young children, as the cooler temperatures and relaxed end-of-day energy often mean children are more settled and natural than they would be mid-morning.

Where do family photo sessions take place?

I shoot at two carefully chosen private locations near Godalming in Surrey — a heathland setting that transforms beautifully through the seasons, and a stunning long grass meadow that is available from July through to September. Both locations are within easy reach of Guildford, Woking, Farnham, Haslemere and Cranleigh, and both offer exceptional natural light and beautiful natural backdrops. I keep my exact locations private to preserve their quality, but I promise they're worth the short drive.

What should we wear?

Soft, neutral tones and co-ordinated rather than matching outfits tend to photograph beautifully against natural outdoor backdrops. Avoid large logos, bold stripes or very bright colours. Once your session is booked I'll send you a full styling guide with outfit inspiration and practical tips to make sure everyone looks and feels their best on the day.

How long is a full family session?

Full sessions run for 45 minutes to one hour on location. This gives us plenty of time to capture a good variety of images — from group portraits to individual children, candid moments and close-up details — without the session feeling rushed or drawn out.

What if the weather is bad on the day of our session?

I monitor the weather carefully in the days leading up to every outdoor session. If conditions aren't suitable — heavy rain, strong winds or very poor light — I'll be in touch to discuss rescheduling. A light overcast sky can actually produce beautifully even, soft light for photography, so we won't always need to rearrange for clouds. I'll always make the call that's in the best interest of your images.

Can we bring our dog?

Yes — well-behaved dogs are very welcome at outdoor sessions and often make for some of the most joyful and natural family photographs. Just let me know when you book so I can plan accordingly.

When will we receive our images?

Your edited online gallery will be delivered within two to three weeks of your session. From there you can take your time selecting your favourite images and exploring print and wall art options — there's no pressure or deadline to choose.

How do I book a summer mini session?

Summer mini sessions are offered on selected dates only and are released in limited batches throughout the season. They book up very quickly, so I'd recommend getting in touch as soon as possible to register your interest. I'll add you to my priority notification list so you hear about new dates before they're announced publicly.
